Utilising the management and sustainability of the Ngaati Koroki Kahukura watercress and tuna projects to provide these food resources for our whaanau at hui and specifically for Poukai happening at Poohara and Maungatautari marae
This will be subject to the Maaramataka/seasons e.g. watercress flower in November and December and are unsuitable to eat.

Kumara – from seeding to harvesting and its various uses

Kamokamo – from seeding to harvesting and its various uses

Taewa – from seeding to harvesting and its various uses

Sweet corn/ Kaanga Maa – from seeding to harvesting and its various uses including kaanga kopiro/pirau, developing understandings and sharing learnings of the best way of developing a sustainable kaanga kopiro/pirau practice

Routine tasks

Manage (weeding and watering) the Maara Kai and Orchards. 

  • Doing all necessary weed-eating to ensure the crop is not overgrown
  • Recording all work by taking a photo before and after all work undertaken. This is critical and is a requirement for all payments to be approved
  • Working with leading practitioners (maanuka, kuumara, kanga, maara) to develop understanding and maaramatanga within this area
  • Recording work undertaken.
